Doris is a Guatemalan pastor and director/founder of a ministry to slum children and mothers in Guatemala City. Her ministry "Amar es Servir" ("To Love Is To Serve") serves a population of about 3,000+ very poor people without any local church in their community.
Amar es Servir is the only Christian presence and ministry to these slum people, mostly displaced indigenous Mayan people and many single parent families. The ministry is based in a school which she has built up over the years.
The ministry offers preschool and kindergarten classes to help prepare children for school, plus after school programs to help school children with home work and teaching special skills. Their programs are very Christian focused with the goal of winning many to Christ and saving the youth from gangs and prostitution. Amar es Servir feeds about 300 children and mothers as day.

Long-held superstions in this area dictate that a child must be 'thrown' in the bush to die for one of many reasons. Perhaps, he teethed on the top gum prior to the bottom... or he was born as a twin... maybe his mother died in childbirth. For these and many other reasons thousands of children are put to death every year. The Hirut Children's Village - supported by FOSO rescues and cares for some of these children. Through sponsorship, we are able to see that these precious children are fed, clothed, educated, have access to medical attention and most importantly, are loved!
Once again, drought and famine are uninvited guests to Ethiopia hitting especially hard in areas of South Omo.
The livelihood of most of the peoples of South Omo is their cattle and many use their cattle as currency to purchase grain and other food items. According to our sources in South Omo, the numbers of cattle are dwindling quickly! Nobody wants to trade food for a pile of bones!
Each day there is more and more evidence of the lack of food and water and along with the cattle, people are dying!
For whatever reason, the world is not paying attention to the emergency situation in Ethiopia and especially in South Omo! There are NO agencies to help in South Omo, emergency relief or otherwise! "Friends of South Omo" is not set up at this time for emergency relief and so needs YOUR help to ensure that food and water get to the people of South Omo.

One of several projects founded by Garret and Lydia Jahnke is the "Shelter for Orphans Ministries" new school proposal. About 60 Zambian children are receiving a Christian based education for free! The current school cannot accommodate all the students at once so classes are held several times a day to give each child a chance at learning. Their desire is to build a school that will allow all the children to attend each day, every day!

>>> Haiti Village Health was founded in 2006 by Tiffany Keenan, M.D., a Canadian Emergency Physician and a group of dedicated medical professionals who share a love for Haiti and a belief that access to health care and medicine is a basic human right. Haiti Village Health provides sustainable, evidence-based front line primary care for the under-serviced rural region of Bas Limbe in northern Haiti, population about 25,000. We complement our international volunteer medical teams with local medical and support staff, providing them with the training, tools and resources to allow them to be self-sufficient by 2015. Our focus in 2011 and 2012 is on women's and children's health, clean water and sanitation. We currently operate two medical clinics in the village of Bod Me Limbe and in the community of Shada, Cap Haitien. We also deliver maternal health services and prenatal/postpartum outreach, combined with pediatric services and outreach to villages in the area. This year we are poised for a major expansion in our public health initiatives as we plan for construction of a new clinic in the village of Bod Me Limbe beside our existing headquarters and guest house. This facility will encourage more women to come and deliver their babies under supervision and will provide increased services including dental care. We recently received funding from the Freemason's, Grand Lodge of Scotland, to build a new clinic in Bod Me Limbe, from Positive Legacy Foundation for the sanitation needs of the clinic and from CME at Sea for operational needs - examples of the generous, continuing support that makes our mission possible.

Linda Kinnel and her husband Greg were sponsors of 3 beautiful little girls at a Tanzanian orphange when they heard that the orphans there were being evicted from the small shack that they called home with their caregiver, Rehema. Around the same time, Linda was watching Oprah's 50th birthday show and was inspired to help Rehema and the children so that they would never face homelessness again. Greg & Linda helped raise money to purchase land and began to build a home for the orphans of Tanzania. Linda is now the Project Manager of the Karim Children's Center in partnership with Bridges of Hope International Agencies Inc. and works closely with Rehema to ensure the health, safety and education of these children.
